Yorkshire Sculpture International will be the UK’s largest event celebrating sculpture. Taking place June – September 2019 across four major institutions and public spaces in Leeds and Wakefield.

Join us in celebrating the Year of Sculpture and apply now to take part in a fully funded year-long sculpture CPD programme. This is a rare opportunity for ten teachers to work with all four of the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle venues – Henry Moore Institute, Leeds Art Gallery, The Hepworth Wakefield, and Yorkshire Sculpture Park – to upskill your knowledge and experience of working with sculpture in new and inspiring ways.

Throughout, you will explore the question, ‘how can sculpture be used in the classroom?’

We are excited to announce our partnership with the Freelands Foundation on this programme. Freelands will develop a parallel programme with ten teachers in London, who we will connect with throughout the year to extend everyone’s learning.

We are looking for up to ten teachers working in Leeds and Wakefield schools to be involved. The opportunity is open to all teachers working with 11-18 year olds.

We encourage teachers with a variety of experience to apply, from NQT to SMT, and from a range of education settings such as SEND schools and PRUs.

To apply you must be able to commit to the following in the academic year 2018-19:

  • Four two-hour workshops at YST venues in Leeds and Wakefield (either twilight or during the weekend)
  • A one-day field trip to London during the Easter holiday
  • Three day summer course (non-residential across the YST venues) during the school holiday

Dates will be confirmed with the teachers according to their own schedules.

All costs will be covered by the programme including materials, return rail travel to London, and refreshments.

As part of this course, your school will be given:

  • A whole staff or department CPD on an area of your choice in sculpture
  • £500 bursary to run a sculpture project in school with students

There will also be an opportunity to deliver an event as part of the Yorkshire Sculpture International project in September 2019.

We are asking for sign off from SMT to ensure commitment from the teachers involved in this project.
